Discover the Heart of Curious Crab
Our Journey and Inspiration
From the raw beauty of Dungeness, we create handcrafted products that celebrate our coastal heritage and support local artisans.
It started with Dan working solely with wood, but due to a work injury, he had to change course.
This is where Curious Crab was born.
We are deeply rooted in the Dungeness community.
Both Paula and Dan filled with curiosity and the urge to have some locally branded products, we got to work on some locally inspired designs.
We are both dedicated to sustainability and quality craftsmanship and believe that reflects the quality of our products and we think it shows off our unique coastal area perfectly.

Dan
I’ve always loved making things. I spent years woodworking and creating pieces by hand, but after developing back problems, I had to find new ways to keep being creative.
That led me more into designing on the computer, laser work, smaller wooden pieces and all sorts of crafts — and eventually to Curious Crab.
I still love the handmade side of things, just in a slightly different way now. Most of what you’ll find here starts as an idea, usually inspired by Dungeness, Romney Marsh and the coast around us, before being designed, made, stamped or finished by me or Paula.
Basically, I like making things.
Paula
The other half of Curious Crab.
Paula is the one to keep us grounded and stops the curiosity getting too carried away!
She’s also become a bit of a stamp-designing maniac, with a real love for getting back to old-school crafts and making things by hand. There’s something about the simplicity and imperfections of traditional stamping that she absolutely loves.
She works full-time, but somehow still finds the time to help with Curious Crab on the side — designing, stamping, throwing ideas around and keeping everything moving in the right direction.
Curious Crab definitely wouldn’t be quite as curious without her.
